Each year various locations around the quaint village of Rottingdean play host to numerous spectacular music and arts events which run from March through to November. With spring fast approaching the 2015 Spring Music Festival is just around the corner and tickets are starting to sell out quickly! Having had a very successful season in 2014, the Rottingdean Arts association have high hopes for 2015 with its fantastic line-up. If you are planning on visiting Brighton this spring or summer then a day out in Rottingdean attending one of these events is highly recommended. Rottingdean is also a fantastic place to stay and we have a number of properties available to rent around the village. The year-round events that take place in Rottingdean prove that a small community can support and produce creativity, entertainment and excitement and shows that sometimes it is well worth venturing out of the big cities! Below are a few of the performances you will be able to see at the Arts festival.

Celebrity Musician’s Lunch with Herbie Flowers

On Friday 20th March at Bistro Gourmand, Rottingdean, enjoy a three-course lunch cooked by French Chef Franck Thomeret whilst listening to the fascinating stories of famous Jazz musician Herbie Flowers. Noted as a member of Blue Mink, T. Rex, and Sky and as one of Britain’s best known session bass-players, Herbie Flowers has been a popular performer in previous Rottingdean Arts Festivals. Herbie Flowers has spent 60 years in the jazz business and has worked with many of the world’s top musicians therefore his stories promise to be highly interesting and entertaining. Bistro Gourmand is a hugely popular restaurant in Rottingdean providing customers with exquisite French cuisine. In the summer its outdoor seating area is the perfect place to enjoy your lunch, and in the winter the cosy atmosphere of the restaurant ensures that you have a fantastic dinner.

On Saturday 28th March at the Rottingdean Village Hall you can get dancing with INCA, a South American Folk Music band that play ethic song and dance music from South America. In the Rottingdean Arts leaflet they have been described as ‘A fantastic group which captures the passion and rhythmic exuberance of native South American folk music, melodies and dances from the Andes.’ They are a five piece ensemble who have recorded scores for blockbuster films such as Titanic, Lord of the Rings, The Harry Potter Series and James Bond!

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

On Saturday 20th June in the beautiful Kipling Gardens enjoy your own picnic before watching Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night performed by the professional company The Lord Chamberlain’s Men. After their outstanding performance of Romeo and Juliet in June 2014 they are back in Rottingdean this summer to perform this well-known Shakespearean play. Seating will be provided ‘theatre style’ in the gardens and the ‘play will go on’ even in the event of bad weather (fingers crossed it will be sunny!)
