Remember, Remember the Fifth of November

The clocks have turned back, the nights are drawing in, and the weather is turning chillier. This means one thing: Bonfire night will soon be upon us! Whilst Gunpowder plots and treason are well in the past, Brighton and the surrounding areas are gearing up to celebrate Guy Fawkes night once again. So put on your wooly hat and go out and witness one of the following brilliant bonfires and firework displays!

Lewes Bonfire Night

Thursday 5th November Renowned for being the biggest and the best Fifth of November celebration in the world, Lewes bonfire night is the last remaining celebration of its kind in the UK. With six separate Lewes bonfire societies celebrating in various parts of town with processions, costumes, bonfires and fireworks - there will certainly be a lot to see! The normally quiet and peaceful town of Lewes fills up on Bonfire Night and has a brilliant atmosphere. Lewes is easily accessible by train from Brighton station (do not attempt to drive as most roads in Lewes are closed for the event) however expect some long queues on the way home! Many of the pubs in the town are open throughout the evening and there are always places where you can buy some delicious food and mulled wine! If you haven’t been to Lewes Bonfire Night before then it is definitely something to be experienced! The processions are free to watch, however some of the bonfire sites have entrance fees. Processions begin from 5pm.

Shoreham Beach Family Bonfire and Fireworks

Saturday 7th November Located a couple of miles West of Brighton is Shoreham Beach where, on Saturday the 7th of November, you will find a huge bonfire and professional fireworks display! Leaving Shoreham Beach Green at 6:30pm will be a fun samba procession which will lead to the bonfire and fireworks! Children can enjoy free face painting in the Church of the Good Shepherd from 6pm, and there will be food stalls throughout the event. The event is free to attend, however it relies on donations to continue running.

Family Fireworks Spectacular - Nevill Sports Ground, Hove

Saturday 7th November Wrap up warm and get set for this excellent Family Fireworks Spectacular at the Nevill Sports Ground. Produced by the Brightfire Pyrotechnics team, this firework display will definitely get you ooh-ing and ahh-ing! The main display will last about 25 minutes and is choreographed to a fantastic musical soundtrack. Before this you can see a fire dance show by Poi Passion! Food stalls will be open all night and you can also buy glow sticks and toys within the ground. Gates will open at 5:00pm, the fire show will begin at 6:00pm, and the main display will begin at 7:00pm.Tickets are available to buy in advance online, or on the door on the day. With these fantastic events happening around the city this Bonfire Night, there is plenty of choice of things to do! Make sure you wrap up warm and plan in advance to make the best of the evening! Lets hope that this Fifth of November goes of with a BANG!

Remember, remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder treason and plot. We see no reason Why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot!
